The Kolam tribe on Tuesday demanded that the government provide employment to youths with SSC as qualification. Kolams being the most backward and classified as the Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Group, this is one concession which is needed for their upliftment, opined Adivasi leaders. The Kolams observed the death anniversary of Kumram Suru, a close associate of Gond martyr Kumram Bheem, at New Kolamguda village in Danthanpalli gram panchayat in Utnoor mandal. Suru had participated in the famous struggle launched by Bheem in the 1940s for rights on forest land being tilled by Adivasis. Among those who participated were former Asifabad MLA Atram Sakku, Kolam Tribal Association district president Kodapa Manik Rao, the district Medi of Gond tribe Mesram Durgu and tribal leader Marsakolla Tirupati. They wanted the government to construct a Kolam bhavan in Adilabad and install statues of Suru in the district.
