National Hockey League Players' Association executive director Donald Fehr is about one-third the way through his annual fall tour to visit players around the league. It’s scheduled to wrap in mid-December.

The feedback from the 700-plus player membership is extremely important to Fehr as it helps shape how he approaches key issues with the league.

Among the subject matter addressed:

Three-on-three overtime: While many players endorse it, there are some who don’t like it one bit, pointing to the wear and tear on the top players. So keep an eye on that one. (Personally, I think it’s crazy anyone wouldn’t like it. It’s fun to watch and from a financial perspective, the top players are padding their individual offensive stats. I mean, come on!)

Off-ice arrests: From drug use to other troubling behavior, it’s been a year unlike any other for a sport and league not used to this kind of stuff. Fehr is making sure to bring it up in his tour of the 30 teams.

Financial discussion: League revenues, collective bargaining agreement, Canadian dollar, escrow, salary cap, etc. are normal topics every year, but it matters big time for players forking over escrow checks.

There are other things being discussed as well but that gives you an idea of what’s being chatted in those 30 dressing rooms with Fehr.
