PANAJI: A judicial magistrate first class (JMFC) court on Tuesday extended the police custody of senior journalist Rupesh Samant by two more days. Samant has been arrested for the alleged sexual harassment cases filed against him. Of the four cases, Samant has obtained bail in one.The women’s police station on Sunday arrested the senior journalist after he surrendered before the JMFC. Earlier, the JMFC had remanded Samant to two days in police custody.
The women’s police station had issued several summons to the accused, but he did not respond to them. On October 30, the high court of Bombay at Goa had rejected an application filed by Samant seeking anticipatory bail. He had challenged the order of the lower court that rejected his bail plea.
Earlier, an additional sessions court judge at Mapusa had also dismissed the anticipatory bail applications filed by the journalist.
