Fresh from defeating Australia in the World Cup final, New Zealand pair Beauden Barrett and Nehe Milner-Skudder gave their backing to a Cork school's team ahead of the coming season.

The duo were key parts of the All Blacks' successful defence of their World Cup crown, with both scoring in the 34-17 victory over the Wallabies.

Later that night, images quickly circulated of Milner-Skudder and Barrett holding a banner wishing luck to the senior rugby team at Cork secondary school Bandon Grammar in next year's Munster Senior Cup.

The picture was taken by the father of student Conor Scully, a member of the squad, who attended the World Cup Final at Twickenham. He met Barrett and Milner-Skudder afterwards and the Kiwis were happy to pose for a photo.

"There has been a huge reaction to the picture," a student told independent.ie.

"There has been a great buzz surrounding the rugby team among the students and hopefully they can use this as further motivation for the season."
