Salekar, Mathere score upsets in Om Dalvi Memorial U-18 tennis

PUNE: Piyush Salekar and Ishwari Mathere upset seeded players to move into the second round of the boys' and girls' sections respectively in the Om Dalvi Memorial all-India ranking under-18 tennis on Monday.
Pune boy Piyush Salekar upset eighth seed Siddhant Mahala of Andhra Pradesh 6-2, 6-4. Nanded's Kaivalya Kalamse also scored a creditable win over Pranav Ponaka, winning 7-6 (6), 6-4 to move into the second round.
In the girls event, Tejasvi Kate scored a tight win over Sharanya Shetty 7-6 (3), 6-2 win and make it to the round of 16.
Another Pune player Ishwari upset seventh-seeded Pragathi Narayan of Tamil Nadu 6-2, 6-1 to create the second upset of the day.
