The release of the teaser of 'Fan', his much-awaited outing with YRF films to coincide with his 50th birthday, has left SRK-watchers with even more to exult about.

After all, the middle aged star’s appearance as the wet behind the ears, gawky and obsessive ‘fan’ of superstar Aryan Khanna, proves that the Badshah of Bollywood still has a few tricks up his sleeve, and can pass off as someone half his age.

As for his reaching the half century mark, according to sources, SRK is said to have spent his big day on Monday working, and in the company of his family and close friends, before cutting a cake at a media event hosted by his Red Chillies Entertainment at a suburban hotel.

However, on Sunday night on the eve of his birthday, sources say SRK paid a visit to Cumbala Hill to wish someone else a very happy birthday. Yes, the star was spotted at Antilia where Nita Ambani’s birthday celebrations were underway.

Ranbir and KJo do the tango
Having worked on a Bollywood film set in our youth, we know that what the audience sees on screen as the final product doesn’t always do justice to the camaraderie, and mad cap fun that goes on behind the scenes, while filming. Especially when a crew is on a long shooting schedule outside India, when the real bonding occurs.

And news comes in, that it’s the same with the cast and crew of Karan Johar’s next directional venture, Ae Dil Hai Mushkil, who are having a rocking time on their current outdoor shoot in London.

And this Sunday night, taking a break from work, when the film’s cast and crew celebrated leading lady Aishwarya Rai’s birthday, we were not surprised to hear that Ranbir Kapoor and Karan Johar performed a raucous Bollywood dance item for the amusement of the onlookers.

Apparently the duo sportingly did an impromptu jig to the title track of Salman Khan’s upcoming film Prem Ratan Dhan Payo. KJo, who is a nifty dancer in his own right, played the part of Salman perfectly and embraced and spun around Ranbir who sportingly played the part of Sonam Kapoor.

The video of this epic jig hasn’t found its way onto social media as yet, but going by the mean moves and wild applause, it sure seemed like a fun night!

Masterfully directed and acted
When as accomplished an actress, as Neena Gupta, calls to say that she would like us to watch, what in her opinion, is her best performance to date, it raises one’s expectations considerably. Fortunately, the film in question, The Threshold, directed by the debuting Pushan Kripalani, more than met these assumptions.

Set in a hill station in the North, The Threshold tells the story of a middle-aged retired couple, Gupta and her husband, played by Rajit Kapoor, who, after their only son’s wedding, have to face some uncomfortable truths about themselves and their marriage.

Handled with exquisite sensitivity, this beautiful slice of life film, which debuted at MAMI, is sure to win its director and actors, many accolades for their masterful work. And that it plays out in a familiar patios of English, Hindi and catches of Punjabi, makes it an ideal watch for an urbane enlightened multiplex-going audience, craving for better cinema.

Big ticket Delhi wedding
It will be a congregation of some of the country’s top legal luminaries, along with, of course, politicians and industrialists of the highest order, when Sonali, daughter of Fin Min Arun Jaitley and his wife Sangeeta, weds lawyer Jayesh Bakshi in Delhi this December.

And as an indication of how important this occasion is, already the best and the brightest are re-arranging their travel and engagements, to accommodate the date.

Jaitley, after all, is emerging as one of the most powerful leaders in the BJP, and one, who, given his deep links with the English-speaking elite of Lutyens Delhi, could easily emerge as a compromise candidate for the top job, if the current incumbent’s tenure proves untenable.

So as we were saying, it’s a foregone conclusion, that the Jaitley wedding in December will be one of the capital’s best attended affairs.

A recent pair of horses done in her signature style, which she presented to His Highness Sheikh Nahayan Mabarak Al Nahayan, Minister of Culture, Youth and Community Development, at the Royal Palace in Abu Dhabi, have won her much acclaim.

“They are exquisite and very heavy, and the fact that she carried them herself to Dubai, impressed the Sheikh immensely,” said a source. Incidentally, the raven haired free spirit whose bohemian appearance is a lietmotif on Goa’s expat scene, chose to wear a fetching hijab for a few of her public appearances while in the desert state.

Mess in Dubai
Our Dubai jasoos was beside herself, with news of the latest shenanigans between the flashy couple, whose marriage turned sour recently. “The R17 crore settlement, along with an apartment at one of the city’s most prestigious developments, and full ownership of a nightclub chain, has been turned down by the wife,” she said.

“What’s more, the gallivanting husband, who is dating (amongst others) the pretty sister of a Mumbai-based socialite, has much on his plate, as both his wife, and his mother, have arrived at his apartment, and are refusing to budge, till he sorts out the mess he’s created.” Ouch!
