“I am very happy that the government has recognised by contribution to the field of theatre. I am thankful to the government and also to the people in rural areas for nurturing and encouraging my talent as a professional stage artiste,” said B. Veenakumari Adoni, who has been conferred with this year’s Rajyotasava award.
Ms. Veenakumari, who started her career as a stage artiste at the age of seven, has 48 years of experience. Basically from Adoni, a Kannada-speaking area in the neighbouring Kurnool district of Andhra Pradesh, Ms. Veenakumari, who has now settled in Ballari, has acted in various Kannada dramas, including social, mythological and historical. She has acted wit Subhadramma Mansur, a well-known professional theatre personality and renowned vocalist among others. She has also served in various drama companies.
She was also conferred the Karnataka Nataka Academy Award for the year 2014 in January this year.
