Gżira United dropped their first points of the season after they were held to a goalless draw by Ħamrun Spartans at the Victor Tedesco Stadium.
Despite losing their perfect record, Gżira will surely be the happier side with the point gained following a drab encounter that produced few scoring chances.
There was little goalmouth action in the first half with the Spartans showing more ambition on the restart but in the end the drawn result was a fair one.
Gżira created the first chance on 17 minutes when Sacha Borg won a good ball on the right flank before sending a cross towards Raphael Kooh Sohna but the Cameroon striker was anticipated by Glenn Azzopardi who cleared for a corner.
The first shot on target came mid-way through the first half when a Jake Grech effort from the distance flew wide.
The Maroons responded on 29 minutes when Luca Martinelli chested the ball down on the right before moving past two opponents but his shot finished off target.
A minute later a Kooh Sohna drive from outside the area just missed the target.
Three minutes from the break a Glenn Azzopardi drive was deflected by a defender and finished wide.
From the ensuing corner-kick, Sunday Nanapere picked Rodney Refalo who just missed the upright from routine distance.
On the resumption, Nanapere controlled the ball on the edge of the area but his firm drive flew just over.
The Nigerian threatened again on 50 minutes when he moved past three defenders but his shot hit the side-netting.
On 59 minutes Zome turned well in the area but his effort was pushed away by David Cassar.
Four minutes later, a Jake Grech effort from 25 metres finished inches wide.
Haruna Garba almost scored on 66 minutes but his header missed the target by a whisker while Gżira goalkeeper Kyle Gerada did well to keep out Grech’s shot.
Gżira almost stole it late on when in a swift break, Kooh-Sohna turned past his marker but his firm drive finished just over.
