DRS stall caused FP2 spin - Valtteri Bottas

A stalled DRS caused Valtteri Bottas' spin in second practice for the Mexican Grand Prix, though the Finn says Williams found an instant fix.

Bottas lost the rear of his car under braking for Turn 1 and crashed heavily into the wall, losing his front wing in the process. However the Williams driver managed to continue and return his car back to the pits and soon emerged to complete the session.

"The rear wing stalled," Bottas explained. "When I braked and the DRS closed it was still as if the DRS was open. We then made some modifications to the rear wing level and then it was okay."

Drivers appeared to struggle to switch on the medium tyres in the morning and Bottas says this is an area the teams will need to focus on ahead of qualifying in FP3.

"We have plenty of work to do to get them working better. I improved more than two seconds with the option. The track will improve the more we run and there's definitely more in it but we need to find more to really make the tyres work."

Speaking about the most challenging part of the circuit, he said: "Well, the second sector, those Esses, 7, 8, 9, 10, were really slippery and because we don't have much downforce it's difficult to get them right. If you lose the rhythm and go deep in one of the corners then that lap is gone.

"The surface is really slippery so it was difficult to get the tyres to work and to get the tyres to really bite on the surface. That was the main problem today and I'm sure everyone was sliding around."
