Leaders Buriram United take on Osotspa, depleted Sharks face Navy in eastern derby

Leaders Buriram United face a tricky outing in the Thai Premier League today and any slip-up could see the champions lose the top spot to SCG Muang Thong United.

Buriram captain Suchao Nutnum, third left, and teammates.

While Buriram, who enjoy a two-point advantage, will travel to Osotspa, Muang Thong will play at Army United today.

On paper, Muang Thong should have few problems against Army who suffered a 4-1 home loss to Buriram last weekend.

The Kirins were held to a 1-1 draw by bottom club TOT last weekend but bounced back with a 4-2 win against Chonburi in a midweek clash.

Buriram hammered Ratchaburi 5-0 with captain Suchao Nutnum scoring twice in midweek but the Thunder Castle could have a tough assignment at Osotspa’s new home, M Power Stadium, in Samut Prakan’s Bang Phli district.

However, Siam Sport, which owns Muang Thong, suggested on its website that Buriram will win.

Siam Sport reported that Buriram chairman Newin Chidchob was spotted at M Power Stadium just one day before they play Osotspa.

“We don’t know if the M Power [Osotspa] will survive [against Buriram],” it said, jokingly.

Meanwhile, two relegation-threatened teams TOT and Port go head-to-head today at the former’s home ground.

TOT are currently placed at the bottom of the 18-team league with 15 points while Port are a place above with 20.

TOT director Chatchawan Paosawad said: “We are not giving in. Although we will be without some key players including Lee Jun-Ki who is nursing an injury, we will put in our best effort in every match left this season. We hope to pick three points from this match.”

Port assistant coach Surachai Jaturapattarapong said: “Wuttichai Tathong is back from suspension and we are ready for the match. Our new coach, Masahiro Wada, is working very hard to help the team succeed in the remaining matches.”

Chonburi face Navy tomorrow without Puritat Jariganon who received a red card in the match against Muang Thong.

Chonburi media chief Jeerasak Chomthong said: “It might turn out to be a tough match for us because we will also be missing Sinthaweechai Hathairattanakool, Adul Lasoh and Korrakot Wiriyaudomsiri who have injuries.

“To play with Navy is not easy and it is a derby match of the eastern region. They are also in good form after winning four matches in a row but we are confident of getting at least a point from this match.”

Meanwhile, the match between Saraburi and Chainat, which was washed out on Wednesday, has been rescheduled for Nov 7 at Saraburi Stadium, the league announced yesterday.
