RAJKOT: The Rajkot Zoological Park has received 40 birds and animals from Lucknow zoo under an animal exchange programme.
The species that arrived here on Thursday, included two pairs each and in total 16 Kali Pheasant, Ring Necked Pheasant, Silver Pheasant and Golden Pheasant and 20 Cockatiels birds. The zoo has also received a pair of palm civet and a pair of striped hyenas.
"We had given a pair of Asiatic lions to Lucknow zoo some time ago. In exchange for the lions, we brought 40 birds and animals in addition to a pair of gharial crocodiles and a pair of striped hyenas that we brought earlier under the exchange programme with Lucknow zoo," Rajkot zoo superintendent Dr R K Hirpara said.
He said people will be able to see these species of birds and animals at the zoo within a week.
"With the arrival of fresh lot of birds and animals, the total number of birds and animals in Rajkot zoo has risen to 194. The zoo now has 25 species of animals including lions, tigers, leopards, four-horned antelopes, chinkaras, sambhars and blackbucks as well as 14 species of birds.
