Mystery sting on Bribie Island puts man in hospital

A man is in stable condition at Caboolture Hospital after he was stung while on Bribie Island early Friday morning.

Paramedics were called about 2.25am to Marina Boulevard at Banksia Beach where they initially reported the man had been bitten by a sea snake.

Caboolture Hospital spokesperson later said he was being treated for a sting on his thumb.

Tests are being conducted to determine what stung the man.

Meanwhile, a far north Queensland woman is in hospital after being bitten on the leg by a snake.

The 60-year-old woman was taken to Mossman Hospital in a stable condition after struck by the unknown variety at a Diwan home, north of Port Douglas, just before midnight on Thursday.

It comes after a deadly brown snake struck a 64-year-old woman in Brisbane on Thursday morning.
