Ramajeyam murder case: CB-CID gets 2 more months
MADURAI: Satisfied with the progress of investigations into the Ramajeyam murder case, the Madras high court Madurai on Wednesday granted two more months to the CB-CID to the complete the probe. However, it directed the investigation agency to submit its interim report on December 18 about the development of the case.
K N Ramajeyam, brother of former state transport minister K N Nehru, was found dead on the banks of the Cauvery river in Trichy after he went for a walk on March 29, 2012.
The Thillainagar police registered a case. Later, the case was transferred to the CB-CID.
As there was no progress in the investigation, Ramajeyam's widow, Latha, moved the court in December last seeking a CBI probe into the case. The court then directed the CB-CID to speed up investigations. When the case came up for further hearing on Thursday before Justice S Nagamuthu, the CB-CID superintendent of police T S Anbu submitted a confidential report to the court and said the team is zeroed in on the case. The judge went through the report and expresses satisfaction over it.
"I am satisfied with the progress of the case. Hence, it is not appropriate to transfer the case to the CBI at this stage," said the judge and asked the opinion of Latha's counsel R Shanmugasundaram. The counsel replied that already the CB-CID had availed opportunities four times, but nothing was achieved in the case. "We are not aware whether the investigation is going in a right direction or not," the counsel said.
