A married woman living with her paramour and his two kids at her husband's home along with her 12-year-old son for the past two years was allegedly stabbed to death by the 38-year-old boyfriend along with her son. He had questioned her for arriving late at night and delaying his dinner, leading to a quarrel that ended in a double murder. The husband was out for work when the incident took place. The boyfriend surrendered himself to Tulinj police after committing the crime.

Sonali Chemburkar (31) lived with her husband Raj Kumar Chavan,28, a radiologist and had a son Kunal (12), a student of Vidya Vikasini School at Sai Leela Apartments in Vasai (East) for the past two years. Her boyfriend Kiran Makwana (38), a diamond craftsman moved into their apartment two years ago with their two kids, Laksh Makwana (8) and Janvi Makwana (12) after his married life turned sour due to his illicit relation with Sonali. Makwana's wife had left the house and abandoned the kids at Sonali's residence.

On Tuesday at around 3 am, Kiran Makwana rushed to the local police station to surrender himself after slashing his left hand and narrated the entire incident to the Tulinj police.

"I killed Sonali and her son Kunal," repeated Makwana to this correspondent. When asked why he took the extreme step, he said, "She arrived late from the hospital and I was waiting for my dinner. When I questioned her she started quarreling. I assaulted and Kunal intervened. I killed him too with a hammer and kitchen knife," said Kiran Makwana, the accused paramour.

The family lived in a society on rental basis since the past two years and Sonali introduced Makwana as her cousin while she was clear about her marital relation with Raj Kumar Chavan and their 12-year-old son Kunal, who was born from her marriage.

"In the society agreement Sonali is referred to as Chemburkar and not as Chavan despite being married while the flat was rented in the name of both Raj Kumar Chavan and Sonali Chemburkar. Kiran was introduced as a cousin with two kids, Laksh and Janvi," said Kamla Bhanushali, a neighbour.

"We suspect that the live-in relationship turned sour and a petty fight turned into a double murder. The husband was out for work. Makwana stabbed the woman several times. When we arrived the kid was breathing, but was declared dead before admission to a private hospital," said a Tulinj police official.

"We were at the police chowki when the accused came running and informed us that he had killed his girlfriend and her son in a fit of rage and has tried to commit suicide," said the official.

"Kiran's wife left him after she learnt about his illicit relation with Sonali and asked him to support the two kids," said the official.

"We have arrested him under section 302 (murder) of the Indian Penal Code and he will be produced in Vasai court," said Shrikrishna Kokate, additional superintendent of police, Vasai region.
