Hyderabad: LKG kid drowns in sump

Police said S. Chandu had gone missing from his home on Monday evening
Hyderabad: The body of an LKG student was found in an underground sump in Gachibowli on Tuesday. Police said S. Chandu had gone missing from his home on Monday evening.
His body was found in the nine-feet-deep sump in the premises of a neighbouring house on Tuesday morning, after a night-long search. The family of Chandu, comprising his parents Ramaswamy and Sujatha from Mahabubnagar, had shifted to Hyderabad a year ago. They have another two children, three-year-old Chintu and one-year-old Chandrika. They stayed in Anjaiahnagar, and Ramaswamy worked as a construction worker.
Last week, the family went to their native place to celebrate Dasara and retuned Monday. Police said Sujatha was filling water in pots, while Chintu and Chandrika were playing in the house. Later, Sujatha found the boy was nowhere to be seen. The family searched for him the whole night and informed the police as well. On Tuesday morning, neighbour Srinivas opened the temporary cover of the sump to fill water and found the body of Chandu. Police said Srinivas owned a three-floor building. As the sump’s cover was missing, he had arranged a temporary cover for the sump, which apparently was not strong and likely led to the mishap. The body was recovered from the sump, and handed over to the parents. Police said no complaint was lodged by the parents with the police.
