'Pay minimum wages to labourers'

NASHIK: Additional municipal commissioner Jeevan Sonawane on Monday asked health officer Vijay Dekate to write to the contractors of garbage vans to pay minimum wages to their labourers.
The minimum wages have to be paid to the labourers but some confusion prevailed among the contractors regarding the payments. The contractors claimed that the law was not applicable to labourers appointed on contract.
"As there was confusion, we wrote to the deputy labour commissioner for a clarification. On Monday, we spoke to the deputy labour commissioner who confirmed that the rule was applicable to contract labourers as well," said Sonawane.
