Manohar Lal Khattar govt impotent, says Abhay Chautala

Addressing the media in Chandigarh on Sunday, the INLD’s MLA from Ellanabad accused the ruling government of not doing enough to protect the rights of Dalits in the state.

Day before the BJP government in Haryana completes one year in power, Leader of Opposition Abhay Chautala launched a scathing attack, calling it an “impotent government”.

Addressing the media in Chandigarh on Sunday, the INLD’s MLA from Ellanabad accused the ruling government of not doing enough to protect the rights of Dalits in the state. “When the government becomes impotent, then such incidents take place,” he said while referring to the incident involving the killing of Dalit children in Sunpedh village in Faridabad district and the alleged custodial death of a Dalit youth in Gohana.

“The government has completely lost its grip on the law and order situation in the state. Rather, it is washing its hands off the responsibility by announcing financial compensations and promising government jobs to the kin of the victims. A shameful incident took place in Sunpedh village, Dalit children were murdered. Similarly, a Dalit youth was allegedly killed in police custody and the government terms it a suicide. In Bhagana, over 100 families were forced to convert their religion because they realised that being Dalit was not safe in the state. The government has not done anything to rehabilitate the Mirchpur arson victims. The crimes against women are on an all-time high,” Chautala said.

He added that atrocities on Dalits have witnessed a steep rise. “We do not want to politicise these incidents, but we condemn all such crimes that are taking place,” Chautala said.

Chautala accused the BJP of having entered into an “agreement” with the Congress.

Festive offer

“When the BJP came to power, we submitted a 400-page chargesheet elaborating on the scams that took place during the 10-year Congress rule in Haryana. Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar assured me on the floor of the House during the Vidhan Sabha session that the government shall act on the chargesheet. Nothing happened till date,” the senior INLD leader said.

He threatened the government to either roll back the power tariff hike by November 1 or face severe agitation across the state.
