Communal tension in Londa, Khanapur

Londa village in Khanapur taluk and Khanapur town continue to be in the grip of tension following communal flare-up on Wednesday night and Thursday morning, respectively. The police have deployed additional personnel, including four platoons of the Karnataka State Reserve Police, to keep vigil. Nearly 30 persons, including BJP leader Baburao Desai and Sri Rama Sene leader Pandit Ogale, have been arrested. Police sources said the violence broke out after defamatory remarks were made by certain speakers at a function organised by the sene in Londa on Wednesday. The police arrested Mr. Desai and Mr. Ogale on Thursday. They have been remanded in judicial custody.
