Police Commemoration Day

Tributes were paid to policemen and other uniformed personnel who laid down their lives while discharging duty across the country, during the observation of the Police Commemoration Day here on Wednesday.

M.N. Ajay Nagabhushan, Deputy Commissioner of Mandya; Bhushan Gulabrao Borase, Superintendent of Police, and senior officials laid wreaths and observed silence at the Parade Grounds off Mandya-Bannur Road.

Mr. Borase, who was the chief mourner, read the names of 434 officers, including 11 from Karnataka, who lost their lives in the cause of duty between September 1, 2014 and August 31, 2015 across the country.

This day is observed as the Police Commemoration Day every year since 1959 in memory of the police personnel killed by Chinese troops in Ladakh, he said.

Mr. Nagabhushan lauded the courage shown by the personnel of various security agencies in protecting the life and properties of the public. He requested the society to recognise the priceless service of the police personnel.

The policemen held a parade as a mark of respect to the slain security officials.

Mandya Zilla Panchayat president Komala Swamy, Additional SP M. Puttamadaiah, Deputy Superintendent of Police T.J. Udesha, District Information Officer R. Raju, Mandya City Municipal Council Commissioner M.N. Shashikumar, former Minister M.S. Atmananda, Kannada Sahitya Parishat president Meera Shivalingaiah and others were present.
