Tamil Nadu to sell tur dal at Rs 110 per kg

To bring down the spiraling price of the pulse from November

Chennai: The Tamil Nadu government on Monday announced that it would sell tur dal to bring down the spiraling price of the pulse from November. The move comes following a similar exercise by the state last month when it sold Onions at Rs 55 per kilo to control the prices.

The state will make available 500 tonnes of imported tur dal allotted by the central government for public sales at Rs 110 a kg through 91 cooperative outlets effective from Nov. 1, a release from the secretariat said. The current market price for one kg of tur dal is around Rs 200-220.

The allocated tur dal has been received at the Chennai port. After processing, the dal will be sold in half and one kilo packets through fair price outlets. Fifty-six stores have been identified in Chennai, 11 in Madurai, 14 in Tiruchy and 10 in Coimbatore to sell the dal,” the release said. A corpus of '100 crore has been allocated for the purpose.

Ration card holders will continue to get dal varieties at a subsidised rate of Rs 30 a kg and edible oil (palmolien) at Rs 25 per litre, the release said.
