“Calories are tiny creatures that live in your closet and sew your clothes a little bit tighter every night”. The caption greets you at Let’s Eat Meat, a newly-opened restaurant at NSR Road, Sai Baba Colony. And, they could not be more right. If you are headed to this place, make sure that you diet for at least a few days.
As the name suggests, the outlet is a dream destination for chicken lovers.
If you are an authentic non-vegetarian fan, chances are that you cannot stop with one dish here. Let’s eat… was started by three friends, Mohammed Azarudeen, Yadhav Krishnan and Sriram. It is love for meat that made Azarudeen think of this name.
Azarudeen, who did his masters in Sheffield Hallam University, U.K., in International Food and Gastronomy, says he loves to experiment with food. “I have always loved to explore non-vegetarian cuisine, and I feel it is any day more varied than the vegetarian one. There is so much one can do.”
For instance, their signature dish called Flame Chicken is totally their creation. “The meat is flambéed and served with a light sweet beetroot dip. It’s a big hit. We are planning to open separate kiosks at different points in the city just to sell this.” The dish has been praised by many customers in different platforms such as Zomato and Foodpanda, adds Azarudeen.
Azarudeen has done his internship at the renowned restaurant elbulli in Spain. He says the approach to food in the West is very different from the one in India. “Kitchen is seen as a lab, and cooking is called culinary chemistry. That’s my approach as well. I love to play around with global cuisines and adapt them to the Indian kitchen.”
I begin the course with the Flame Chicken, the restaurant’s signature dish. The meat, unlike regular grilled or fried varieties, is moist and so tender that it falls off the fork! It’s a little sweet and the slightly charred flavour blends well with the beetroot dip.
For the main course, I get naan stuffed with minced chicken, and methi chicken curry. The methi curry will also go well with that hot platter of spicy biryani. Check out their kebab platter that includes five different varieties– hariyali, malai, garlic, tikka and pepper flavours. The coriander chutney is perfect with them.
The menu offers Afghani and tandoori chicken, different kinds of Indian breads and paneer dishes. At the moment on weekdays they concentrate on chicken-based gravy and fried dishes.
On weekends the chef whips up yummy pomfret delicacies and mutton varieties.
My fingers are messy and I have chewed my last leg of chicken. I have lost the cutlery somewhere along the way.
But relishing a good meat dish is also about eating it the right way. And, one should not let a fork come in the way!
The restaurant undertakes free door delivery within five kilometres radius. It also takes party orders.
