Four killed as car collides with truck near Madurai

MADURAI: Four people were killed when a car they were travelling in collided with a truck near Melur in Madurai district of Tamil Nadu on Wednesday night.
The deceased have been identified as Anbarasan, Sathishkumar, Nandakumar and Pandiarajan, all hailing from Kallukatti near Karaikudi. They were going to Madurai when their brand new car hit a truck laden with fireworks.The truck was going to Chennai.
The accident took place on the four-lane road near Melur. One side of the road was closed due to maintenance work, and vehicles were diverted via the other side. However, both the vehicles had proceeded at a high speed, resulting in the accident, police said.
