In N.H., an awkward moment for Donald Trump

MANCHESTER, N.H. — Donald Trump, still leading in Republican primary polls to the slack-jawed astonishment of many pundits, is fond of boasting of his worldliness. How many world leaders he knows, how many countries play host to his, in his own telling, seemingly endless business empire.

It was thus incongruous on Monday, then, when Trump, who bragged during an appearance at a bipartisan No Labels conference in Manchester of his Ivy League schooling, appeared to mistake an apparently American-born man for a South Korean national.

A young man in a Harvard hoodie, who looked of Asian descent, took the microphone during an audience question-and-answer session and began asking Trump about earlier remarks on South Korea taking advantage of the United States.

The Donald interrupted him. “Are you from South Korea?” he asked.

“I’m not,” the young man replied. “I was born in Texas, raised in Colorado.”

End scene.
