Hassett in as Fitzmaurice bolsters Kerry backroom
Former All-Ireland winning captain Liam Hassett has been brought on board as a Kerry selector
Former All-Ireland winning captain Liam Hassett has been brought on board as a Kerry selector as Eamonn Fitzmaurice beefs up his management team to five.
Hassett, skipper when Kerry won the title in 1997 after an 11-year gap, will be an additional selector as Padraig Corcoran has been named as a replacement for Cian O'Neill, now manager with his native Kildare. Mikey Sheehy and Diarmuid Murphy, who have been with Fitzmaurice since 2012, are to remain on as selectors.
Corcoran will assume chief responsibility for strength and conditioning. Originally from Dublin, he was on the periphery of a Dubs' minor football team back in the 1990s.
But he has family links to Dingle and has been based there for over a decade.
He was part of the coaching team over Pobalscoil Chorca Dhuibhne prior to Fitzmaurice taking over and has also worked with Pat O'Driscoll's Kerry minors.
For the last three years he has worked in a strength and conditioning capacity with the Kerry seniors and has also been the match-day 'maor foirne.'
Meanwhile, Paul Geaney has undergone an operation on his back and is understood to be facing shoulder surgery towards the end of the year, which could limit his involvement in the early part of next season.
