The upcoming Maruti Baleno hatchback has been creating a lot of buzz lately. The vehicle will be launched on 26th October and now more details about the premium hatchback have been revealed. The most important thing about the Baleno is its weight. The car is based on a new platform which is said to be quite lightweight. The Baleno weighs 890 kgs and 960 kgs for the petrol and diesel versions respectively while the Swift weighs 965 kgs and 1060 kgs for the ZXi and ZDi variants respectively.

Hence, even though the Maruti Baleno is going to be the more premium and bigger offering, it is lighter than its slightly cheaper sibling which will result in better fuel efficiency among other things. The Baleno has a length of 3995 mm while its width and height are 1745 mm and 1500 mm respectively. The vehicle has a fuel tank capacity of 37-litres. The hatchback gets 185 section 15-inch wheels while the top variant gets 16-inch tyres.

The Maruti Baleno will be offered in six colour choices. Every variant of the vehicle will be offered with dual front airbags, ABS and EBD as a standard feature. The premium hatchback is powered by the same engines that do duty on the Swift. The 1.2-litre petrol engine churns out 83 HP of power while the 1.3-litre oil-burner gives out 73.9 HP of power and get SHVS hybrid tech. Both the engines will come mated to a 5-speed manual transmission while the petrol engine will also get the option of a CVT gearbox.

The Baleno will be offered in four variants – Sigma, Delta, Zeta and Alpha. The top variant gets features like projector headlamps, daytime running lights, Apple CarPlay (segment first), navigation system and a voice command feature. The vehicle is expected to be priced between Rs. 5.5-8.5 lakhs (ex-showroom, Delhi) and it will compete with the likes of the Fiat Punto Evo, Volkswagen Polo, Hyundai Elite i20 and Honda Jazz. The Baleno will be sold exclusively through NEXA dealerships.
