Credai declares nationwide protest to show its solidarity with a member who committed suicide earlier in October due to alleged harassment

Bengaluru: Industry body Confederation of Real Estate Developers’ Association of India (CREDAI) declared a nationwide protest on Tuesday, to show its solidarity with Suraj Parmar, president of the Thane chapter of Maharashtra Chamber of Housing Industry (Credai-MCHI), who committed suicide earlier in October due to alleged harassment.
All related businesses, construction sites and site offices will remain closed as part of the protest. Credai, which has around 11,500 members across various cities, has asked its members not to carry out construction on any project site or conduct any sales transaction.
Parmar committed suicide on 7 October “due to harassment from various government departments and their repeated demands", said a Credai statement.
Parmar’s suicide note highlights the issues of delay in getting approvals, project plans getting rejected with retrospective effect, political interference and deliberate delay in implementing government policy, Credai said.
