Fashion’s grand ode to Benaras at AIFW finale
The fragrance of gulab itr and classical notes greeted the guests at the grand finale of Amazon India Fashion Week on Sunday in Delhi.
Keeping with the theme of the show — Born in Benaras — ghats of Benaras were recreated as the backdrop to the ramp that witnessed 16 designers pay tribute to the indigenous Benarasi weave and its journey from traditional wear to contemporary fashion.
Sunil Sethi, president, FDCI, shared that after Benaras, they will also focus on other regions of India.
He said, “We are extremely thrilled to have a stunning and grand culmination promoting Benarasi weaves. The designers presented their expert and unparalleled creative benchmark, with the encouragement and belief instilled by Shaina NC to take this forward in alliance with our title sponsor Amazon.in.
Our designers have successfully reflected the old-world charm of Benaras on the contemporary canvas.” Susan Saideman, head, fashion, Amazon India, said, “I would like to thank and congratulate FDCI and all 16 designers for putting together a spectacular show. This association has given us a great opportunity to liaise with the huge talent pool of designers. We want to work with them and help them leverage the power of technology to access and provide unique experiences for their new generation customers across India and the world.”
The participating designers showcased a fresh take on Benarasi weave across Western and Indian looks.
