The new "Steve Jobs" movie debuted with impressive numbers when it was released in Los Angeles and New York over the weekend, reported MacRumors.com.

The small scale debut made $521,000 over the weekend, which was an average of $130,250 per theater, according to Variety.

HNGN previously reported that the biopic "Steve Jobs" beat the record set by "Sicario" a couple of weeks ago for the best per-theater average.

Universal Studios decided on a rolling release of the film to generate buzz. Next weekend the movie will move to 60 theaters and 25 markets, Variety reported. On Oct. 23, Universal will release the film in 2,000 theaters countrywide.

"By holding back and platforming it in this way, we let the public know what this movie is all about and we generate a hotter 'want to see' among audiences," Nick Carpou said, the head of Universal Studios' domestic distribution operation.

The film has a three-act structure that feels like a play that takes you behind-the-scenes to see Jobs prepare to launch three new Apple producers: the Mac, NeXT workstation, and the iMac computer, according to CNET Magazine.
