Police probe eight suspects arrested in possession of powerful communication gadget

Nairobi, Kenya: Police in Nairobi have arrested eight suspects in possession of a powerful communication gadget in Eastleigh, Nairobi.

The suspects of Somali origin were nabbed by officers on patrol along Twelfth Street. They were in a Land Cruiser mounted with a powerful VHF Motorola communication gadget.

Starehe OCPD Benard Nyakwaka told The Standard that police have started investigations to establish the source of the gadget and how long it has been in use.

Nyakwaka added that out of the eight suspects, only three had national identification cards.

"We are yet to establish if indeed the IDs are genuine. There were also some other IDs in the vehicle bearing different names and we are carrying out investigations on the same," he said.

Sources told The Standard that the suspects, who were arrested on Sunday, were later moved to the Anti-Terror Police Unit (ATPU) for further interrogation.

Police are currently working hand in hand with the National Registration Bureau to establish if the IDs are genuine.
