People playing politics over beef-ban issue: VHP

LUCKNOW: In what could be seen as first direct statement by a senior VHP functionary over Dadri lynching and subsequent discussions over it, the Vishwa Hindu Parishad on Sunday said since 2/3rd of the population is non-vegetarian, Sangh Pariwar doesn't want to change eating habits of the people as being claimed.
"What we want is a complete ban on eating of beef, as mother cow is the centre of faith for Hindus and it should not be hurt," VHP's joint general secretary Surendra Jain said.
VHP or sangh pariwar is not making any bid to change the eating habit of the people but certainly want people to desist from eating beef, Jain, who is also the national spokesman of the VHP, further said and added that many people are playing politics on it.

Corroborating his point, the all-India joint general secretary of the VHP gave a challenge to those returning their awards and said that will they go to Saudi Arabai and announce plans to eat pork meat. If they will come back alive from there after their announcement, he would himself welcome them in the country, Jain said and added that else they should stop being hypocrites.
He also hit out at senior Cabinet minister Mohd Azam Khan claiming that his writing a letter to UN was an act of stupidity. To a question, VHP's joint general secretary said that no wonder the state government has not mentioned beef in its report, it has mentioned consumption of prohibited meat. What else is prohibited, certainly not goat or lamb meat, Jain asked?

He also hit out at Akhilesh-led state government claiming that the state government has adopted pick-and-chose governance. Why members of one community are given Rs 45 lakh and jobs while family members of slain sub-inspector Manoj Misra are still waiting for a word from the government, Jain asked and added why this bias towards members of one community.
