AGRA: In yet another stinging attack on Union minister and BJP MP from Agra
Ramshankar Katheria, the Congress' student wing National Students Union of India (
NSUI) is 'begging' money from residents of the city in order to 'finance' the construction of his home. Katheria has been served notice by vice chancellor of
Dr Bhim Rao Ambedkar University to vacate the varsity campus in which minister has been allegedly living illegally.
A group of dozen students led by NSUI's Agra unit president Deepak Sharma and national secretary Amit Singh, begged money from citizens as a form of protest against Katheria's illegal occupancy in the university campus.
"We are left with no other option but to beg for money to finance the construction of the minister's home, who is not leaving university campus. The Union minister is adamant and abusive, he has been using university vicinity for his political interest since decades; he conducts party meetings and when we protest, his men manhandle students," Sharma said.
"Last week after massive protest by students, vice chancellor M Muzammil had served notice to the minister to vacate the house that was allotted to him when he was a teacher in Hindi department, but instead he called students dogs and stated that when dogs barks he gets promotion," Sharma added.
The controversy over Agra MP Katheria occupying a house inside the university premises despite him having taken a five-years leave from his teaching duty has been raging for the past few months.
The latest demonstration was one among many aimed at the varsity for allowing the minister to retain his Khandari campus house.
Amit Singh, national secretary of the NSUI, said, "The money collected from citizens will be given to Union minister Katheria in form of a demand draft. We have managed more than Rs 1500 and are now going bank to make DD in the name of Ramshankar Katheria."
