Remember Pure Mule? The RTE Two mini-series first hit our screens 10 years ago as part of RTE's 2005 autumn schedule.

Designed to draw a yoof audience it featured storylines revolving around binge drinking, sexuality, drug-taking, and lots of casual sex.

Simone Kirby's character Geraldine famously took part in a threesome with her boyfriend Kevin and friend Jennifer (played by Charlene McKenna), horrifying and thrilling audiences in equal measure (actually, it was probably more likely the latter).

Speaking at the time, Charlene said, "Being Jennifer was the best fun ever. It was all about flirting and chatting and drinking and going out and being very bold.

"She was a blatant flirt, she would steal other people's boyfriends, she even had a threesome with her best friend and her boyfriend but it was all so she would get some attention."

Of that particular scene, she added, "I read the scene with the threesome and I thought, 'I'm not sure if I can do this'.

"Originally it was meant to take place on a beach with the water running up over us.

"The first thing that came into my head was, 'What will my mother think?'.

All the action in Pure Mule took place in Offaly, with scenes filmed in Banagher, Birr and Tullamore.

The show launched Charlene's career - she went on to star in the hugely successful RAW for RTE and Ripper Street for the BBC.

The cast also included Tom Murphy (of Intermission and Man About Dog fame), Garret Lombard, Luke Griffen, Gary Lydon, Eileen Walsh, Joanne Crawford, and Dawn Bradfield.

It was commissioned for six episodes and three years later it returned for two special episodes called Pure Mule: The Last Weekend.
