Mexico to promote trade with Asia, says president

Mexican President Enrique Pena Nieto says he is looking to capitalize on the TPP free trade pact.

MEXICO CITY -- Mexico will seek to diversify its exports and imports, capitalizing on the Trans-Pacific Partnership trade liberalization initiative on which the U.S., Japan and 10 other countries recently reached a broad agreement, Mexican President Enrique Pena Nieto said in a recent interview.

To attain that goal, Mexico wants to sharply increase exports to Asia, Pena Nieto said Thursday in an interview with The Nikkei at the presidential palace in the capital.
