The Week 2 of "The Vampire Diaries" season 7 will see Caroline being held as a hostage by the Heretics as retribution for Bonnie and Damon breaking their deal.

The promo for "Never Let Me Go" shows her being tortured by the Heretics and it looks like Enzo is also part of the Heretics now. Caroline isn't pleased when he tells her that he is the closest she has to a friend. However, her time with the Heretics lead her to make one shocking discovery regarding her boyfriend Stefan's past.

Although Damon and Stefan will hatch a plan to rescue Caroline, things don't go the way they want them to as their mother, Lily Salvatore, is one step ahead in the game. According to the synopsis of "Never Let Me Go", Lily "carries out a harsh plan that hits Damon where it hurts most."

"Elsewhere, after returning to Whitmore College, Alaric turns to Bonnie for help with a mysterious and potentially dangerous artifact he has obtained, while Matt is forced into making a risky life or death decision," the rest of the synopsis reads.

Based on the premiere of the CW vampire drama, the rest of the season is going to be as thrilling and dangerous as the first episode of the season that featured a time-jump of three years.
At some point in the season, the Salvatore brothers would have moved to Brooklyn, and Damon would have chosen to remain in a coffin till Elena woke up from her long slumber. But Stefan needs his brother, as he seems to have caught the attention of someone who wants him dead.

As for what else happened in the season opener, here's a short description:

Caroline and Stefan are an item now that she has realised that the youngest Salvatore brother could be her one true love.

Matt is now a cop and he teamed up with Stefan and Caroline to reclaim Mystic Falls from the Heretics. However, they did not succeed, forcing them to strike a deal with the Heretics that resulted in the humans being evacuated from the town.

Damon and Bonnie's friendship continues to thrive and the season opener saw him crashing at her dorm room at Whitmore College.
