MADURAI: A 14-year-old girl was allegedly murdered by her cousin in the presence of her four-year-old brother in Tuticorin on Wednesday. Police are on the lookout of the accused, who is absconding.
Satya, daughter of late Kodeeswaran of Thalamuthu Nagar First Street, was living with her mother Amudha, 40, and brother Santosh. The Class 9 girl and her brother, who is in UKG, were studying in a private school in Renganathapuram.
Their mother was working in a flower drying unit in Sipcot Estate in Tuticorin.
Amudha had a sister Alagumthu, who died a few years ago. She has two sons, Pradeep, 24, and Karthik, 20. They run a cell phone shop in Thalamuthu Nagar Main Road and frequented at their aunt’s house to have meals, but Satya had opposed of this.
Sometime ago, Satya had alleged that Pradeep was peeping at her while she was taking bath and changing clothes. She had complained to their grandmother and uncle, who lived two streets, about the incident. Acting on it, they told Pradeep not to go to the girl’s house.
On Wednesday night, Satya and her brother were sitting in a room when Pradeep entered. According to Santosh, Satya and Pradeep quarreled and soon drew out an aruval that he had brought and hacked Satya with it. He then fled on a motorcycle.
Police sources said the boy, who was the direct eyewitness to the gruesome murder, needs to undergo counseling. The real motive behind the murder will be ascertained only after Pradeep is arrested said Thalamuthu Nagar police. A case was registered.
