Tihar prison officials are preparing an inquiry report on the murder of two inmates, Ishwar and Anil Chaudhary, inside Jail No 1 Wednesday, sources said.
DIG (Prisons) Mukesh Prasad confirmed the probe Thursday and said they were looking if there was any lapse on the part of prison authorities.
Anil and his associates had attacked Ishwar, said sources. Prison authorities had claimed Anil had injured himself with weapons. Sources, however, said Anil’s death may have been due to a beating at the hands of Tamil Nadu Special Police personnel.
Prasad declined to comment on how Anil was killed. “The post-mortem report will reveal the cause of death. The inquiry report will hold the entire sequence of events and the incident.”
A three-member medical board in Lady Irwin hospital conducted the autopsy on the two deceased on court directions. Police sources said Ishwar had received multiple stab injuries on his head, eyes and torso with a sharp edged weapon.
According to police, Ishwar (30), along with undertrials Vasu and Sandeep was being escorted to his high risk ward by security guards at about 2 pm after an eye checkup when he was attacked by Anil, Vasu and Sandeep.
Ishwar, to stave off his attackers, picked up a loose tile from the pavement and beat Anil on his head. Meanwhile, Anil’s associates Vasu and Sandeep caught up with the two and also stabbed Ishwar , said sources. “The weapon of murder was recovered from the prison premises,” a police officer who did not want to be named said.
Police said they were going to register a case of murder against Vasu and Sandeep.
Police sources said Ishwar had stabbed Anil last year. Anil had been plotting to take revenge ever since, the sources added.
