Watch Luke Bryan’s Sultry ‘Strip it Down’ Video
Two months after debuting “Strip it Down” during a live performance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, Luke Bryan has released a video for the steamy single.
Co-written by Bryan and inspired by his wife, Caroline, “Strip it Down” is a slow-moving tribute to gettin’ busy, anchored by commands to “let me run my fingers down your back” and “dirty dance me slow in the summertime heat.” Those requests may be a bit risqué, but Bryan keeps things relatively PG-13 in the new video, which throws a spotlight not on the grand finale of a successful date, but the proceedings leading up to it.
In the clip, two husbands — a city dweller and a country farmhand, both married to wives whose jobs mirror their own — pow-wow on the phone, hatching out a plan to swap homes for the weekend. The country lovebirds ditch their denim, throw on some formalwear and drive to Manhattan, where they clink wine glasses on the rooftop of a penthouse apartment. Meanwhile, the big-city businessman dresses himself down in flannel and an oversize belt buckle before picking up his wife in a borrowed truck. Together, they leave the bright lights of downtown and drive to a backwoods barn, where the belt buckle clatters to the ground during the video’s final seconds. Bryan pops up throughout the video, too, crooning the song from his perch on a piano bench.
The whole vibe is reminiscent of The Bachelor, perhaps, but that’s somewhat appropriate for Bryan, a musician whose country music has always catered to the pop-culture whims of the times. Following on the heels of “Kick the Dust Up,” the first single from Bryan’s new Kill the Lights, “Strip it Down” feels infinitely more genuine, delivered by someone whose touring schedule keeps him away from home for much of the year. When he sings about drowning out every distraction and focusing on his wife again, you believe him, clichés be damned.
