TopGear is back. Oh, my God, can this be Jezza, Hamster and Captain Slow together again, finally? - We can almost hear those fanatics screaming out loud. Sure, we could all act numb about it, but who are we kidding here? Seeing the boyband sitting in front of the perfect trio - Ferrari LaFerrari, McLaren P1, and the Porsche 918 Spyder - truly is a good picture.
It’s not every day that you get to see what the automotive world has called the hybrid hypercar triad. Let’s face it, we are talking about supreme engineering at its best, there’s no going wrong with neither of the three. Let us take each time.
We’ll start with Ferrari’s best road breed. It’s providing the highest power output of any Prancing Horse while decreasing fuel consumption by 40 percent. Combine the mid-rear mounted Ferrari F140 V12 with the and the 161 hp KERS unit, and you get a total of 950 horsepower and a combined torque of 664 lb-ft (900 Nm).
We’ll move on to the second star of tonight’s show, the McLaren P1. The long-awaited successor of the F1 is also using a hybrid conformation to offer excruciating power. Put together the 3.8-liter twin-turbocharged V8 petrol engine and the in-house developed electric motor offer an outstanding 903 hp and 722 lb-ft (978 Nm).
Last but definitely not least, the Porsche 918 Spyder. Engineers in Stuttgart have outdone themselves with this beauty. We’re looking at a naturally aspirated 4.6-liter V8 engine, that alone develops 608 horsepower. Add the additional pair of electric motors and you get a combined output of 887 horsepower.
Now, most of us knew all these figures, but we’d like you guys to imagine what having all them at once feels like. Just act like you can hear the engines revving, smell the rubber burning and hear the wind going through those vents!
Well, now you have a small hint about how the first day at work for Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond and James May felt like.
