"We expect this move to create a favorable atmosphere for the continuation of discussions on key issues of political settlement, which will ultimately enable the conflicting parties to not only find a common ground and bring closer their positions, but also to reach mutually acceptable solutions to existing problems," ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova told reporters.
Earlier this week, Donetsk and Lugansk agreed to postpone their local elections until 2016.
Ukraine is expected to hold local elections on October 25 in the rest of the country.
Paris and Berlin have earlier announced that the Normandy Four group on Ukrainian reconciliation, also comprising Moscow and Kiev, agreed on the necessity to adjourn the election in Ukraine’s east.
The self-proclaimed republics in eastern Ukraine have repeatedly stated that the decision to hold elections independently from Kiev was made after the Ukrainian government proceeded to adopt a law on local elections without consulting them in advance, which contradicts the Minsk peace deal on the Ukrainian reconciliation.
