Fernandes discusses the airport operator’s investment at the airport, which has been in two phases: the short-term plan aims to cater to passengers the basics that were not in place. Since RIOgaleão took over it has added more than 60 new commercial retail and food and beverage outlets and more than 60 new daily flights. The long-term plan includes a complete retrofit and expansion of the airport, which will include the addition of a new pier with 26 bridges and 100,00sq m of total construction area.
In terms of retail/commercial space, the airport is adding 30,000sq m where we will leverage the city of Rio de Janeiro’s unique Carioca culture.
