Fresh off a gold medal win for its Vienna Lager at the 2015 Great American Beer Festival this past weekend in Denver, Devils Backbone Brewing Co. is celebrating its expansion into the Wilmington market.

“We are extremely proud of this year’s win,” co-founder Steve Crandall said. “It is a continuation of the great work our brew team has executed since we opened our doors.”

Devils Backbone began in 2008 as the Basecamp Brewpub, located at the foot of the Three Ridge Mountains in Nelson County, Virginia. In 2011 the company built a state-of-the-art production facility in Lexington, Virginia.

Several tap takeover events are happening across town this week to celebrate the launch. Devils Backbone will be at Ogden Tap Room and Cape Fear Wine and Beer on Wednesday; Fox and Hound and King Neptune on Thursday; Dig N’ Dive and Fermental on Friday; and Capt’n Bill’s Backyard Grill on Saturday.

Representatives from the brewery will be present at each of the events, and guests can expect to sample the Vienna Lager, the Eight Point IPA Gold Leaf Lager, the Pumpkin Hunter, the Bravo Four Pint IPA and Schwartz Bier. Available beers will vary upon location.

“This marks the first expansion for us in two years, and we are really looking forward to sharing our brews with craft beer drinkers in North Carolina,” marketing director Jennie Hatton-Baver said.

Devils Backbone has partnered with Coastal Beverage to distribute its beer across the region. For a full list of tap takeover events, click here.
