IIT inducts 150 IT graduates

Informatics Institute of Technology (IIT) inducted close to 150 IT graduates at its 21st annual convocation held recently.

These students received their postgraduate and undergraduate internal degrees from the University of Westminster (UOW), UK.

Present at the ceremony as Chief Guest was Sports Minister Dayasiri Jayasekara. University of Westminster Vice Chancellor and Rector, Professor Geoffrey Petts was also among the guests at the occasion.

Addressing the graduates Professor Geoffrey Petts noted: “It is a very special day because it is the celebration of 25 of years of success of distinction of this fantastic institution and as the Vice Chancellor to the University of Westminster I am delighted that we are a part of your special day and we contributed in some sort of a way to the success of this great institution.”

Students graduated in the fields of Software Engineering, Information Systems with Business and MSc in Advance Software Engineering. Several graduates also received awards for exceptional performance that include the UOW Award and the Dr. Gamini Wickramasinghe Gold Medals.

Winners of the UOW award for all round performance were Krishnakripa Jayakumar forSoftware Engineering and Dinali Cooray for Information Systems with Business Management whereas Samiyuru Senarathne was awarded in the field of Software Engineering.

Rukshani Attapattu for Advanced Software Engineering and Randula Wedanda for Information Systems with Business Management received the Dr. Gamini Wickramasinghe gold medals for outstanding contributions to IIT. IIT formerly known as IICS (Informatics Institute of Computer Studies) is a private university in Sri Lanka which specialises in Information Technology. It was founded 1990 and has paved way for up to 3,000 graduates who’re employed in 25 countries, since its inception. The graduates have captured illustrious positions in both public and private companies. It has concurred with predominant foreign universities including the Manchester Metropolitan University (MMU) and is currently affiliated with University of Westminster, thus permitting students to follow those courses in Sri Lanka. The alumni of IIT have been imperatively responsible in empowering over 250 multinational and local blue-chip companies by holding key strategic positions and have contributed immeasurably towards the advancement of their respective organisations. Many of these graduates have played a crucial role in strengthening Sri Lanka’s ICT industry.

IIT is an award winning institution and IIT students have won many national and international level competitions such as Microsoft Imagine Cup, National Best Quality Software Awards (NBQSA), Google Summer of Code and e-Swabhimani.
