Mesut Ozil says he is enjoying playing alongside Mathieu Flamini for Arsenal .

The German turned in his best performance of the season so far on Sunday, helping the Gunners to a fine victory over Manchester United at the Emirates.

Flamini did not feature in that game, but Ozil believes he is a positive influence at the club.

"I have a really good understanding with Mathieu," Ozil told Arsenal's website.

Good pals: Flamini and Ozil share a joke

"He’s a guy who always gives 100 per cent on the pitch but when he’s off the pitch, he’s a player who makes a lot of jokes and gets on well with a lot of his team-mates.

“He’s just a great guy with whom I have a lot of fun.

"As I said, we’re just pleased to have him in this team.”

Ozil also admitted he was impressed by Flamini's goalscoring contribution to Arsenal's League Cup win over Spurs last month.

The former Marseille man made the most of a rare start to score a brace at White Hart Lane – the second of which was especially impressive.

“He scored two wonderful goals," continued Ozil.

"He’s been rewarded for his strong showings and those goals were of course sensational.

“[Volleys like that] are really difficult. Sometimes when you see players connect with them, the goalkeepers save the shot or they miss the target.

"Mathieu caught his perfectly and scored a wonderful goal, especially because it was the winner."
