Sensex closes 103 points higher, Nifty above 8,170; ONGC surges
Sensex and Nifty rose for a sixth consecutive session on Wednesday as oil explorers and auto makers gained
Mumbai: The BSE Sensex and CNX Nifty rose for a sixth consecutive session on Wednesday as oil explorers such as Oil and Natural Gas Corp. Ltd (ONGC) rose, tracking a rebound in crude oil prices, while auto makers such as Mahindra and Mahindra Ltd gained on hopes the upcoming festive season would boost sales.
The Sensex rose 0.38%, or 102.97 points, to 27,035.85. The Nifty added 0.3%, or 24.50 points, to 8,177.40. Both indexes earlier hit their highest since 21 August.
ONGC rose 4.2%, while Mahindra and Mahindra added 1.9%. Reuters
