Microsoft's 'Project X Ray' demo for HoloLens looks interesting (Tomorrow Daily 253)

Culture
[MUSIC] Greetings this is the internet. Welcome to tomorrow daily. The best tech show in the universe. You're watching our mini episode while our sets being built here in beautiful burbank california. So while we're waiting, let's talk about some headlines. Of course The big story today. Microsoft, the had a huge event, they unveiled a bunch of new products, they showed some new demos. A lot of great stuff happening. They kick things off with a hololens demonstration and showed up the thing called project x-ray that featured an augmented reality game where aliens burst through your walls and then the wearer utilizes these. Wearable hologram type things to destroy them. While the presentation was incredible to watch and people were flipping out in the audience. But I feel it is my solemn duty to remind you what HoloLens actually looks like from the point of view of the wearer. Not quite what you saw with the super cool red camera that showed off what the user was seeing. It's a little bit different. But if you still wanna get your hands on a HoloLens dev kit, you can now do that, you can apply on Microsoft's website. But if you do get approved, it's gonna set you back a pretty penny. It's gonna cost you about 3,000 bucks. Ouch. We also saw some other new products at the event, including a new Xbox One bundle, a Microsoft Band refresh, and the Surface Pro 4. But two of the more interesting reveals in my opinion, were the liquid cooled Lumia smartphones, working with a USB type C continuum doc, that scaled your display up, and let you work in Windows from your Lumia phone or Surface device. And finally, in a little bit of a surprise, Microsoft announced the surface book. A Mac book competitor with a fully detachable screen due to this specially designed bit called a dynamic [UNKNOWN] hinge. It allows the surface book to close like a regular laptop, bend all the backwards almost like a surface, and also Detach the screen itself from the keyboard, and use it just as a tablet. So, kinda cool stuff coming from Microsoft. Now if you wanna learn more about anything and everything Microsoft talked about today, including pricing, specs, release dates, all that good stuff, of course you can head over to cnet.com, we've got All the details. Okay. So now going from that to robots working at Best Buy. I don't know if you knew this but there is a robot working at a Best Buy. This is in New York City and this giant yellow robot with a, sort of, creepy smile only kind of screen is named Chloe. She resides in this giant glass compartment full of games, and movies, and small accessories, and other products that are sort of small and kind of pick up. Kiosks are connected to Chloe's enclosure and that allows people to sort of just, walk up and make these sort of easy transaction. So once you buy something, you make your payment, you chose what you want Chloe finds the item in question. Her little robot body goes up, finds the item, pulls it from the shelves, and then deposits it into a bin where you can retrieve your purchase. Now this is the only location where Chloe is deployed. But if it proves successful and cost effective, I am sure the retail chain will look into more locations to install devices and robots like Chloe. So you might be asking for help from a robot the next time you visit a Best Buy. Which is kind of what you do now? [LAUGH] Okay guys it's Tuesday, let's spend our money, let's talk about what's new. [MUSIC] In new releases this week you will wide the actual release for Pan. The movie that nobody asked for but apparently we're getting cuz I guess a lot of people really like rebooting Peter Pan. It's got Hugh Jackman in it as I believe Black Beard and then [INAUDIBLE] a young Captain Hook. It's like a whole very weird Roonie Mara. I don't know, I don't know guys. I mean the critiques I feel like are gonna pan on this one. You guys can all hate on me in the comments for that, that's fine, I agree, I agree with you. I'm gonna hate on myself in the comments. All right, let's move on to video games, we've got some great stuff coming out this week. Metal Gear online is available. For Playstation four and Xbox one sorry PC users you're gonna have to wait until next year. But if you're hanging around on console and you're playing Metal Gear Solid five you can now get online and stealthily attack your friends and loved ones if they're also playing the game. Of course we have Rock Back four. Huge release. Rock Band four has returned. Rock Band is here to make all of our parties better and make them more fun So you can grab that if you're interested. That's on Playstation 4 and Xbox One as well. And of course, if you're rocking a 3DS, I highly recommend picking up Chibi-Robo, because Chibi-Robo is the most adorable little robot that nobody really knows about. And it's one of Nintendo's Cutest little heroes and I feel like Chibi-Robo needs some love. So give Chibi-Robo your love this week if you have a 3DS because it does actually look like a pretty good game. All right guys, let's stop talking about everything that's gonna make us poor. Let's talk about you, and your pretty, pretty pictures. [MUSIC] Our photographer of the day is Rashid, and he writes to us all the way from Qatar, which is pretty exciting stuff. So Rashid says, hey Tomorrow Daily, I'm Rashid from Qatar. I just wanna say hi to you guys, and thank you for your great show. I watch every episode of it, and enjoyed all of them. Totally love you for that Rashid. Nice work. He also says, this picture was taken from a plane when it was landing at London Heathrow Airport. When I opened my window I saw the most beautiful sunset in my entire life. I didn't think I took my iPhone 6 Plus, and I took maybe the best picture I've ever taken. If you look closely you can see the London Bridge on the Thames River. I hope you like it. I apologize for my English cuz it's not my first language. Have a great one! Rashid. Well Rashid your english is amazing. So don't apologize because it was great. And your picture, equally amazing, so great work. This is gorgeous, I honestly thought it looked like a rendered kind of flyover of a city, so fantastic job. And I'm sure you guys all have great, Phonetography that you wanna share with the show. And if you wanna do that, you can email us tomorrow at CNET.com. You can tell us a little story about it, send us a picture, tell us what device you took it on, and also give us permission to use it on the show. And if you want to find us on the Internet, we're your friends. We're @Tomorrowdaily on Facebook, Twitter everywhere in between and of course you can always find me and producer Logan personally. I'm @AshleyScoba, producer Logan is @Loganboy. That's it for todays show. We will be back tomorrow with a brand new dock it of science facts meets science fiction blowing up your face. Doing all sorts of great things. Making us happy. But until then, be good humans. See you guys next time. Bye. [SOUND]
