WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — The US Army will receive updates to its missile interceptors in order to better protect people and infrastructure from threats, Lockheed Martin Missile and Fire Control PAC-3 Programs Vice President Scott Arnold said in a release.

“We are proud to deliver these interceptors to the US Army and are confident the men and women of the armed forces can count on the PAC-3 MSE when it matters most,” Arnold stated on Tuesday.

The PAC-3 missile has solid-rocket motors, large control fins and an upgraded support system, which allows for improved mobility and range in the missile system.

Arnold noted that threats have grown in number and complexity, and expressed hope the “interceptors will be critical to protecting soldiers, citizens and infrastructure around the globe.”

In April 2014, Lockheed Martin obtained the first PAC-3 MSE production contract and received a follow-up order in July 2015.
