All the bad publicity police officers have experienced recently has really taken its toll. In fact, a Dunkin' Donuts employee in West Hartford, Conn. refused to serve a police officer over the weekend just for being a cop. As the officer stood at the back of the line, the employee looked at him and said, "We don't serve cops here," according to Fox CT.

After the police officer heard the employee's remark, he walked out of the store. However, a manager and the employee followed him to his car. When the employee apologized for her comment, the officer told her to apologize to the other customers who seemed offended instead. The worker also tried to give the police officer a free cup of coffee, but he said he would get his coffee somewhere else, NBC Connecticut reported.

Dunkin' Donuts released a formal apology to the police officer and said the employee exhibited poor judgment.

Police Chief Tracey Gove admitted that he's proud of the way the police officer dealt with the incident, according to the Hartford Courant. "Police officers face insults on a regular basis and we all strive to face them with professionalism. That's exactly what happened here."
