PU pension scam: Accused Pooja Bagga sent to judicial custody

The official also said the face-to-face questioning of Vikram Nayyar and Bagga could not be conducted because the police reached the city late.

Pooja Bagga, one of the alleged mastermind behind the multi-crore pension scam in Panjab University, was sent to judicial custody on Monday by a local court after spending 13 days in police custody.

Police could not question PU finance and development officer Vikram Nayyar in the presence of Bagga. But, that might be done on Tuesday, said an official of Economic Offenses Wing (EOW).

The EOW officials could not make any arrest from Himachal Pradesh where they went to arrest some relatives of Bagga who were made the beneficiaries by her in the scam by transferring the money in their accounts.

An EOW official said the team that went to Himachal Pradesh to arrest some of the relatives of Bagga reached Chandigarh on Monday evening after which the accused was produced in the court.

The official also said the face-to-face questioning of Vikram Nayyar and Bagga could not be conducted because the police reached the city late. The questioning, however, could be done on Tuesday following which some new arrests could be made in the case.

An EOW official said, “Our team reached the city late because of which we got late to produce Bagga in the court and also could not question the FDO and two auditors who were to be questioned on Monday. All of them will be questioned on Tuesday and soon some more arrests could be made in the case.”

Meanwhile, the EOW officials added that they did not arrest any relative of Bagga who were living in Himachal Pradesh, as they were not present at the addresses when the police conducted the raid.
