KOLKATA: Konnagar Ltd, a UK-based software consulting startup promoted by city boy Sibaji Dey Choudhury, has been nominated by UK Oracle User Group (UKOUG) for an award in the “Independent Partner of the Year” category in 2015. UKOUG is a prestigious award in the UK and is aimed at recognizing Oracle partners for the contribution that they make by offering their service to Oracle.
In last two years, a lot of global leaders like Hitachi Consulting, IBM, PWC were among the finalists in the different categories of this award.
Dey Choudhury (in mid thirties), the founder and managing director of the startup, pointed out that the company has been selected as finalist from around 60 UK-based companies, on the basis of its outstanding “independent” service dedicated to the Oracle customers. The winner will be decided by voting from Oracle end customers. “Be in the run for the coveted best partner award is an achievement for just a three-year-old company,” added Choudhury.
An alumnus of St. Thomas Boys School, Dey Choudhury is an electronics engineer from Amravati University in Maharashtra and has done executive programme in business management from IIM Calcutta. The name of the company, Konnagar Ltd, was Dey Choudhury’s tribute to the town of Konnagar in Hoogly district, barely 22 Kms from Kolkata, which is his native place and where he learnt his numbers and alphabets as a child.
In India, Dey Choudhury worked for Hughes (Gurgaon) and Oracle Corporation (Bangalore) and then at the age of 29 he moved to the UK in early-2008 on an HSMP Visa (Highly Skilled Migration Program) to work for Oracle Corporation UK. He then founded Konnagar Ltd in March 2012 shortly after leaving Oracle UK as a senior consultant. “I am a regular blogger on Oracle License Management in the UK,” he added.
According to him, although head-quartered in Berkshire (UK), Konnagar Ltd serves customers globally in areas relating to effective management of their Oracle License Estate. “Currently, the organisation has a strong UK-based client portfolio, including The Scottish government, Monarch Airlines, Dairy Crest and also global giants like SEIKO, ARUP, Specsavers, etc. We are also servicing clients in India,” he added.
Elaborating the future plan, the techie said it would soon open an office in New York to service clients in the US. “US is a big market for Oracle and we want to tap that,” he added.
After US, Konnagar Ltd is likely to set up office in Bengaluru as well. However, Kolkata office is not immediately in the agenda of Dey Choudhury. “We are in the discussion with a few companies in Kolkata. If it materializes then we may look for one office here,” he added.
