Diageo poaches finance director from US printer firm Xerox
Poached: Kathryn Mikells, who joined Xerox in 2013 will start at Diageo next month
Guinness and Johnnie Walker owner Diageo has appointed a finance director from US printer firm Xerox.
American Kathryn Mikells, who joined Xerox in 2013 having spent most of her career at United Airlines, will start at Diageo next month.
The world’s biggest drinks giant has shaken up its team in America in response to lacklustre performance and is dispatching the current finance director, Deirdre Mahlan, to become president of Diageo North America.
She replaces Larry Schwartz, who will retire at the end of the year after 40 years in the drinks industry.
Franz Humer, chairman of Diageo, said: ‘On Kathryn’s appointment Deirdre Mahlan will step down from the board and her role as chief financial officer.
'The finance function and Diageo are stronger as a result of the changes Deirdre has made and… she will continue to play a pivotal role for the company in leading our North American business.’
Mikells, 50, said: ‘I am excited to join the Diageo team.’
Diageo shares rose 28p to 1810.5p.
